Here is a fabulous website to help you work with your child's handwriting {print or cursive}. All you need to do is pull up the webpage, put in the things you want him/her to practice, and print! Its like worksheet magic! (Tip: ignore the adds and do not click download. Once you type things in, just click the print button.)

Tomorrow's lunch was going to be travelling tacos, but instead, the cafeteria will be serving grilled cheese and tomato soup! YUMMY!
What a fabulous day! Sparky is extremely proud! Our class had a total of 160 positive Dojo points today! Outstanding jobs kiddos!!
Here is the agenda for the week. Remember to check your child's written agenda though. Things don't always flow the way we plan and activities or homework may shift to other days. I always sign the agenda to verify that it was written correctly. Here's to another great week!
I have been working like crazy to update our page. I didn't realize how much of our policies, procedures, programs, etc. that have been tweaked or changed for this year. There are still things I am working on, but I think the main things (most important) are all updated. If you have already been looking through the parent information pages, please do so again. I went through them all tonight and made the changes. Thank you for keeping up to date and for all the positive notes I have been getting from you about the time I spend on the site. I really appreciate it and it keeps me motivated to continue the postings and updates! I will post here when more updates are made and look for the "draft" brain boost and agenda page posted here at the beginning of the week!
We had a great first week! We have a few behaviors that we will be working on and fine tuning, but over all we have an extremely well behaved class. I am so excited for the year ahead! Today we sent home lunch menus to oldest siblings in the building. Unfortunately, one of our little ones forgot their menu in the classroom. If you did not get one, please let me know. The homework for the week is to continue the Connect Four board sent home on the first day of school. Normally it will be due weekly, but since it is a new idea, the children were given 2 weeks. We have a new fluency sheet this week. The students brought home a sheet explaining how to do these readings (see below for the document). Continue to check the agenda each night because even though I post it at the beginning of the week, things change and can be taken off, moved, or added. I will be posting photos of the wetlands from today, so stay tuned! Have a wonderful weekend! Reading Fluency Week 2Fluency Parent LetterConnect 4 Homework Choice Board (continue from last week)Reading LogHere is the first week's morning brain boost and agenda. This is a reference for you in case you don't see the agenda or if you cannot read the agenda (I'm not saying that ever happens). This gives you a heads up for what needs to be done and can hopefully help you plan your evenings. The brain boost is part of this for our morning routine use, but you can use it to spark conversation at home about the school day.
Homework this week includes the following: Fluency Sheet Connect 4 Math Sheet (this comes out of their math workbook) Parent information this week includes (but not limited to): Math Family Letter (pg M3-4) Math Family Letter (pg M7-8) Fluency Practice Letter Soon, this information will be disussed here, but the forms and paperwork will be on the "Homework" page of our site. That site is password protected to ensure that copyrights are protected for things that I will make available to you but do not want to make available to the rest of the world. I will send home the password information soon. Until then, I hope this information helps in the crazy week ahead! I look forward to seeing your children on Monday and Tuesday! Ok... So I am also connecting this account to twitter in order to make more ways for you to follow us and get updates! I hope that this also makes things easier and not more difficult :)
I am trying to help with the updates and information that you will be receiving and some of us at Summit are now trying to integrate Facebook as a means of communication. I am going to request that you email me or contact me through this page for anything you need, but feel free to like or join the Facebook page to get notifications. This is new to me as a school idea and I am hoping it makes things easier for everyone and not more difficult. Check it out at Facebook.com "Teach to be Happy"!
I am so excited to start a SPARKtacular and STEMerific year with you and our students! Some changes are happening within the classroom as compared to the past 2 years and so you will see that start to be reflected here on the website. A good example of that is the change in monitoring behavior. This year our entire school will be using ClassDojo.com to track positive behaviors and to monitor negative behaviors. This is completely done online and you will have access to your child's account that you can see at anytime.
I am a true believer that too much information at one time is not helpful. I will slowly introduce things to you and your child through the first 2 weeks to help them become habit and routine. I keep things as consistent as possible but at the same time, I change where change is needed. I use the design cycle within my own philosophy of teaching and make improvements to better our classroom. I hope you will take the same approach at home with any work that your child brings. If a routine is not working, please consider why and make improvements. This week will be a busy one with introduction to the use of the room and supplies, general routines, and getting to know me and the rest of the class. Remember that your big boy or girl is still really a baby and may come home tired after school. Try to establish a bedtime routine as soon as possible, especially because our building is running earlier than it did last year. If you have any questions, please email me or send a note. I look forward to working with you this year! |
